PC Tools integrates its own antivirus protection and anti spyware software as the baseline for this suite, adding on an array of new and cutting edge technology to provide a strong front against online threats.
Version 2010 has several improvements and new features such as Behavioral Intelligence, which is a next generation technology to help detect new threats faster. The suite also includes a new multi-layered browing protection feature that help keep web-based attacks away, including phishing scams, rogueware and more.
Real-time scanning prevents new and known malware from infecting PCs. Intelliguard™ monitors for malicious activity involving spyware, suspicious processes, tracking cookies, viral activity, key loggers and more.
1. Installation - The install is straight forward, it does require a reboot and once the system reboots the programs begins an automatic scan.
2. User Interface - There are only 5 options on the left side of the interface all very self explanatory. The "Status" tab shows the four main components of Internet Security 2010. "Anti-Spyware", "Anti-Virus", "Anti-Spam" and "Firewall". By clicking on each of these items information is displayed at the bottom of the of the window where the user can further review the results by clicking on the "View Scan Results" link.
The "Start Scan" tab presents the user with 3 options, "Intelli-Scan", which is PC Tools' version of a quick scan, "Full Scan" which entails scanning the entire system obviously taking more time and "Custom Scan" where the user can choose which local drives, network drives or other device to scan.
The scan will take care of the following factors: running processes, startup locations, browser cookies, browser settings, the windows hosts file, the windows registry, activex objects, layered service providers (LSPs), and all drives on the system.
3. IntelliGuard - The IntelliGuard tab hosts 10 different tools from "Behavior Guard", "Browser Guard" to "Network Guard" and even "Site Guard" to name a few, all of which are critical for the overall protection of a PC.
4. Settings - This is where some configurations about the program can be edited. For example in the "Advanced" area the user can activate "Game Mode" which is a great feature to keep users safe while playing games at gaming sites. Other useful features in this area include the Firewall settings, where the mode can be adjusted from allow all to auto, ask and block all.
The program seems to provide good overall protection thought the tools under the IntelliGuard tab have few configurations options and may leave the user confused as to what exactly to do with these tools. At a glance all these tools are automatically enabled but they can also be disabled if needed.
